GO Award Shortlist revealed…

On January 17 GO Group will happily reveal 2017’s winner of the Green Operations Award. As the sustainability related category of the European Festival Awards the GO Award forms something like the “green Oscar” of the European Festival scene. The ceremony will be held at the Oosterport on the opening night of next year’s EurosonicNoorderslag festival and conference.

The award will be presented by GO Group’s steering committee member Teresa Moore (A Greener Festival). She will present the 6th winner of the Green Operations Award, decided by a jury of experts from this exciting short list:

  • Cambridge Folk Festival (UK)
  • EDP Cool Jazz (POR)
  • Electric Castle (ROM)
  • NorthSide (DK)
  • Øyafestivalen (NOR)
  • Pohoda Festival (SLK)

Green Operations Award coordinator Holger Jan Schmidt (GO Group / YOUROPE) says: “Year after year it6 is a joy to see festivals from all over Europe taking responsibility, putting fabulous projects in place and taking the sustainable approach to new levels. Many of those in this year’s shortlist are spearheads in their scene or area. We are happy to acknowledge all of them and their work already by the nomination for the 2017 GREEN OPERATIONS AWARD. It’s our burdon having to chose on a winner between these as they all deserve an award. As always: we cannot award the greenest festival in Europe – there is non, because they differ in size, budget, audience and challenges. But we sure can and do see and award extraordinary performance within an event’s very own context. All six nominees are winners already!”

To be honest all of these festivals qualify for the top position and being in the shortlist should be received as a trophy already. Congratulations to all festivals and good luck to all of you!

This is the definition for the Green Operations Award:

Green Operations Award
European Festival Award for Green Excellence
The Green Operations Award is an annual award presented by Yourope and the GO Group. Its target group are festivals that have made a significant contribution to or achievement towards developing more sustainable events. Examples for respective achievements are practises and systems introduced at their own event, the development of good practices, which they have shared with other events, a specific innovation or continuous improvements over a number of years. The Award is given out by a panel made up of experts that are not directly linked to any specific festival with the exception that the previous year’s winner will be invited to cast a vote for the following year’s award only. The winners will not be nominated again for about ten years to allow the jury to acknowledge the great work of as many festivals as possible.
